OXVA VPrime vs VPrime 2, the two generations head to head
Two OXVA pods share a family name, the same maximum output and the same pods. The original OXVA VPrime and the VPrime 2 still part ways on battery, charging speed, the pod in the box and overall size. We set them against each other on six measurable criteria (battery, charging, pods, vaping modes, dimensions and weight), using only the manufacturer’s spec pages, to find out whether the second generation is worth trading up to.
OXVA VPrime or VPrime 2, the short answer
The VPrime 2 wins for direct lung vapers who use high power and want to charge less often. It brings 3400 mAh instead of 2600, 5 volt charging at 3 amps instead of 2, and a Dual Mesh pod that unlocks a Boost mode.
The original OXVA VPrime keeps the edge on size. It is 34 grams lighter and 7.6 millimetres shorter, and it gives nothing away on maximum output or pod compatibility.
Spec sheet against spec sheet
Every row comes from OXVA’s two official product pages. An empty cell means the manufacturer does not publish the figure for that model.
| Criterion | VPrime (first generation) | VPrime 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 2600 mAh built in | 3400 mAh built in |
| Output | 5 to 60 W | 5 to 60 W |
| Modes | Eco and Boost | |
| Charging | USB-C, 5 V / 2 A | USB-C, 5 V / 3 A |
| Pod in the box | VPrime 5 ml (2 ml TPD), 0.2 and 0.6 ohm | VPrime Dual Mesh 6 ml (2 ml TPD), 0.4 and 0.6 ohm |
| Screen | 0.96 inch colour | 0.98 inch colour |
| Firing | auto draw or button | auto draw or button |
| Airflow | side adjustment | side adjustment, RDL to DTL |
| Dimensions | 105.5 x 37.8 x 23.45 mm | 113.12 x 41.2 x 27.7 mm |
| Weight | 116 g | 150 g |
| Pod technology | UNITECH 2.0 | Dual Mesh and UNITECH 3.0 |
Four rows really drive the choice (battery, charging, pod and size). Output is identical at 5 to 60 watts, and OXVA’s own page settles the matter where a retailer’s test quotes a 12 watt minimum for the first VPrime. That leaves tank capacity, which is easy to misread.
Pods rated at 5 and 6 ml, capped at 2 ml in the UK
The 5 ml VPrime pod and the 6 ml Dual Mesh are international figures. The Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 cap refillable tanks at 2 ml, and OXVA offers a 2 ml TPD version of each pod, the one supplied in its TPD kits.
On the UK market, both devices therefore hold exactly the same amount of liquid. The range also includes an empty 2 ml pod and replacement coils in 0.4 and 0.6 ohm.
Battery life, 2600 against 3400 mAh
OXVA puts the battery gain at 30%, and the exact figure is 31%. The gain does not come from better density, since capacity per gram only moves from 22.4 to 22.7 mAh. The VPrime 2 does not carry a more efficient battery, it carries a bigger one.
Charging improves faster than capacity, from 10 watts (5 volts at 2 amps) to 15 watts (5 volts at 3 amps), and OXVA credits the VPrime 2 with a half charge in about twenty minutes. With 31% more capacity and 50% more charging power, a full recharge is even around 13% shorter on paper, provided the charger can deliver 3 amps at 5 volts.
OXVA VPrime pods and Dual Mesh, what changes in the vapour
The pod is the consumable you keep buying, and it is where the second generation changes most, to the point of explaining the Eco and Boost modes that the first model’s page never mentions.
Boost mode halves the resistance
OXVA pitches Boost at maximum flavour and dense clouds, and Eco at sparing the battery and the pod. In Boost, the 0.4 ohm Dual Mesh drops to roughly 0.2 ohm and the 0.6 ohm to roughly 0.3 ohm.
Halving a value is exactly what two identical meshes wired in parallel do. In Boost, the 0.4 ohm Dual Mesh therefore behaves electrically like the 0.2 ohm pod supplied with the first VPrime, so one pod covers two styles of vaping.
Cross compatibility works both ways
OXVA states that the original VPrime pod works in the VPrime 2 and that the Dual Mesh fits the first VPrime, with one caveat, since kit contents and pod versions vary by region.
For an owner of the first model, it is the most practical point of the whole comparison. The Dual Mesh can be tried without a new device, even if the original OXVA VPrime page describes no mode to drive it.
Size and pocket, 34 grams apart
The VPrime 2 grows 7.6 millimetres taller, 3.4 wider and 4.25 thicker. Multiplied together, these modest gaps take the volume worked out from the dimensions from 93.5 to 129.1 cubic centimetres, 38% more.
Weight rises from 116 to 150 grams, 29% more, in step with the battery (31%). Volume, on the other hand, grows faster than battery life, a ratio the retail listings we checked never work out.
In a jeans pocket, thickness matters more than height, and that is where the VPrime 2 gains most, at 18% extra. The same trade off between bulk and battery runs through our Voopoo Drag H40 vs Drag X3 comparison.
Draw and firing, what the two share
Here the VPrime 2 follows the first model’s recipe. OXVA quotes auto draw firing in 0.01 seconds for both, backed up by a fire button.
Airflow is set from the side, from a restricted direct lung (RDL) draw to a fully open direct lung one, according to OXVA for the VPrime 2 and to retailers for the first model.
Both rely on pods with built-in coils rather than a tank you can strip down, a trade off between simplicity and dependence on one consumable that our Vaporesso GTX One Pro vs Voopoo Drag S3 duel sets out. On the VPrime 2, OXVA also describes a side locking switch, useful on an auto draw pod carried in a bag.
Our pick for each type of vaper
A duel between two generations is not settled by adding up points, but by how you use your pod.
Direct lung vapers who want to charge less often
The VPrime 2. Its 3400 mAh, 15 watt charging and two mode Dual Mesh pod make it the more complete of the two for high power vaping.
Vapers who carry their pod in a pocket
The original VPrime. It is 4.25 millimetres slimmer and 34 grams lighter, delivers the same maximum output and takes its successor’s Dual Mesh pod.
Owners of a first VPrime
Nothing forces a change of device. The Dual Mesh fits the existing model, and only the bigger battery and the Boost mode really justify moving to the VPrime 2.
FAQ
These five questions cover points the duel table leaves aside.
Does the OXVA VPrime suit a tight draw?
OXVA presents it as a direct lung pod, and its airflow closes down to RDL without aiming for the tight draw of an MTL pod. For gentler vaping, the range offers VPrime pods up to 0.8 ohm, the highest value, which runs at lower power than the 0.2 ohm.
How long does a VPrime pod last?
OXVA publishes no lifespan, which depends on power, liquid and how often you vape. A burnt taste, weaker vapour or liquid in the mouthpiece means it is time to change it, since its built-in coil cannot be replaced on its own.
Should a new pod be primed?
Yes, like any pod with a built-in coil. Waiting a few minutes after the first fill lets the wick soak, and starting at reduced power limits the risk of a burnt taste on the first puffs.
Which e-liquids does OXVA recommend?
The first VPrime’s page lists both families, nicotine salts and freebase nicotine. Whichever you pick, UK rules cap nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml in bottles of 10 ml at most, and very sweet liquids generally clog a mesh coil faster on any device.
Can a VPrime battery be replaced?
No, both generations use a built-in battery. Its loss of capacity over the charge cycles sets the useful life of the device, whichever pod is fitted.
OXVA VPrime or VPrime 2, what to remember before choosing
The VPrime 2 does not reinvent the pod, it enlarges the first one. Battery, charging and a Dual Mesh pod earn it its place, in exchange for a noticeably bulkier body.
The original OXVA VPrime still makes sense for anyone who puts pocket size first, especially since cross compatibility opens the Dual Mesh pod to it. Among 60 watt pods, the real question is no longer power, which they all share, but the size you are willing to carry.
