Voopoo Doric 60 vs Doric 60 Pro, two tube pods head to head

Voopoo Doric 60 vs Doric 60 Pro, two tube pods head to head

Voopoo gave the same name to two tube-shaped pod kits. The original Voopoo Doric 60 and the Doric 60 Pro list the same battery and the same maximum output, so they are easy to take for one another. They are not the same device. We compared them on six checkable criteria (battery, pod, coils, airflow, drip tip and size), using Voopoo’s own page and retailer listings that agree with each other, to work out which one to choose.

Voopoo Doric 60 or Doric 60 Pro, the short answer

The Doric 60 Pro wins for anyone who wants to move between a tight draw and an airy one without changing device. It adds the PnP X pod, a replaceable 510 drip tip supplied in two versions, airflow set on the pod itself and a ring that locks the fire button.

The original Voopoo Doric 60 keeps two strengths, a body almost 15 millimetres shorter and draw activation on top of the button. For no-fuss direct lung vaping, it remains a sensible base.

Spec sheet against spec sheet

Figures for the Doric 60 come from Voopoo’s official page, with the dimensions published by several retailers. Figures for the Doric 60 Pro come from retailer listings, kept only where at least two of them agree. An empty cell means no reliable source gives the value.

Four rows settle the choice, the pod, the drip tip, the airflow and the firing method. Battery and output are identical, 2500 mAh and 5 to 60 watts. Pod capacity is the one row that reads differently on a British shelf.

International capacities against the 2 ml UK limit

The 4.5 ml of the Doric 60 pod and the 5 ml of the Pro are international figures. In the UK, refillable tanks and pods sold with nicotine vaping products are limited to 2 ml, so the compliant versions hold the same amount of e-liquid on both devices.

The same rules cap nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml, sold in bottles of 10 ml at most. The half-millilitre gap on the international sheets therefore does not apply to a kit sold in Britain.

PnP against PnP X, the real change on the Doric 60 Pro

The pod is the part that gets replaced over time, and this is where Voopoo switched platform between the two generations. Picking a model also decides which coil family you will use afterwards.

Two separate coil families

The Voopoo Doric 60 takes the original PnP coils. Voopoo supplies a PnP-VM5 at 0.2 ohm, rated between 40 and 60 watts, and a PnP-VM1 at 0.3 ohm, rated between 32 and 40 watts. Both aim at a dense, direct draw.

The Pro moves to PnP X coils and changes its target with them. It ships with a 0.8 ohm coil already fitted, suited to a mouth-to-lung draw, plus a 0.3 ohm coil for direct lung vaping. PnP and PnP X are two distinct platforms, as covered in our Voopoo Drag H40 vs Drag X3 comparison, and the family printed on a coil’s packaging is worth checking before fitting it.

Refilling means taking the pod off

On both models the magnetic pod comes off to be filled. On the original Doric 60, the port sits underneath, closed by a silicone tab. One retailer’s published test of the Doric 60 Pro regrets the lack of top filling, which would have avoided that step.

Draw and settings, from DL to MTL

The draw is where the Doric 60 Pro earns its name. Retailer listings present it as a device built for both DTL and MTL, whereas the two coils supplied with the first Doric 60 targeted direct lung vaping.

The 510 drip tip changes the picture

The Pro accepts a standard 510 drip tip and supplies two. The first, fitted out of the box, serves the mouth-to-lung draw with the 0.8 ohm coil. The second, meant for direct lung vaping, goes with the 0.3 ohm coil. Voopoo’s Doric 60 page mentions no 510 drip tip.

If you are still weighing the two ways of inhaling, our guide to MTL vs DTL draws explains how each one feels.

Airflow moved upwards

On the Doric 60, the airflow ring sits at the top of the battery, under the pod, with a small opening for a tight draw and a wider one for an airy draw. On the Pro, it moves up onto the pod itself. One retailer presents this top airflow as leak-resistant, and the logic holds, since air inlets above the coil should give e-liquid less of a path out than an inlet below the pod.

Size and firing, what the Voopoo Doric 60 keeps

The Doric 60 Pro stands 128.1 mm tall against 113.45 mm for its predecessor, 14.65 mm more, while its diameter shrinks from 26.55 to 26.1 mm. Treating both bodies as cylinders, the volume worked out from those dimensions rises from about 62.8 to 68.5 cubic centimetres, 9 per cent more for the same battery.

That extra volume adds no milliamp-hours. It houses the PnP X pod, the 510 drip tip and the locking ring. The Voopoo Doric 60 therefore stays the more compact of the two, a real advantage for a tube that has to fit in a shirt pocket.

Firing also separates them. The Doric 60 fires on the draw or on its button, as you prefer. The Pro listings we checked describe only the fire button, with a notched ring at the base that locks it for transport. The same trade-off between size and features runs through our OXVA VPrime vs VPrime 2 comparison.

Our pick for each type of vaper

When two generations share battery and output, the right choice depends on the draw you want far more than on the spec sheet.

Vaper looking for a tight draw

The Doric 60 Pro. Its pre-fitted 0.8 ohm coil and its MTL drip tip are aimed squarely at that draw, which the coils supplied with the first model do not offer.

Direct lung vaper who wants a compact tube

The Doric 60. Almost 15 mm shorter and able to fire on the draw, it delivers the same maximum output with two PnP coils designed for direct lung vaping.

Owner of an original Doric 60

There is no need to change device while it suits your draw. Moving to the Pro mainly makes sense for the 510 drip tip, the tighter draw and the newer PnP X platform.

FAQ

These five questions cover points the spec table leaves aside.

Can the Doric 60 battery be replaced?

No, both generations use a built-in 2500 mAh battery. As it wears, the whole device ages with it, whichever pod is fitted.

How do you read the lights on the Doric 60?

Voopoo states that three-colour LEDs show output power and battery status. The first model has no screen, so those lights are the only way to read its state.

Which coil suits nicotine salt e-liquid?

Voopoo pairs the 0.2 and 0.3 ohm coils of the first model with e-liquids of 6 mg/ml or less, which rules out stronger nicotine salts. On the Pro, the 0.8 ohm coil, meant for a tight draw, is the one to consider, following the strength guidance printed on its packaging.

Does a new coil need priming?

Yes, like any coil with a cotton wick. A few minutes of waiting after the first fill lets the wick soak, and starting at the lowest power level limits the risk of a burnt taste.

Can another drip tip be fitted to the Doric 60 Pro?

Yes, a standard 510 drip tip should fit. It is a simple way to fine-tune the draw or replace a worn part without touching the pod.

Voopoo Doric 60 or Doric 60 Pro, what to remember before choosing

The Doric 60 Pro gains neither battery life nor power. It gains versatility, through the PnP X pod, the 510 drip tip and the top airflow, in exchange for a longer tube and firing that the listings we checked limit to the button.

The original Voopoo Doric 60 still makes sense for direct lung vaping in the smallest format. Between two tubes with the same battery, it is the draw you want, tight or airy, that points to the right Voopoo Doric 60.
